Next
week we will learn about the letter L in our classroom. We will compare non
fiction and fiction text as we read about lions and recall details from both of
these types of stories. A science unit on magnets will be started as well. We
will get to experiment with magnets as we discover the meaning of the words
attract and repel. In math we will continue to work on our fluency of 5 and 10.
Recently we have learned several games on how to build on this fluency.
Understanding 5 and 10 is a major component of our common core. This
understanding will build future confidence in math! Mathematical Vocabulary is
also an important part of the common core.
Open House is on Wednesday evening beginning at 6:30. Open House is an event you attend WITH your child. Your student will show you around our classroom and school. There is no presentation from me...it is all about your child! Open House is always an exciting time for the students of May Watts School...they love to show off their learning! Just a quick reminder, that although I am there to interact and talk to you at Open House, I am NOT available to conference about your child's progress. If you want to talk about that, please contact me and we can set up another time to do so.
Right around the corner is 100's Day! The 100th day of school is Tuesday, Feb. 5th. On 100's day we like to have a little fun and celebrate all that we have learned/done so far in Kindergarten. I still need three parent volunteers to help out. If you are available between 9:30-10:45 and you want to come in to help us celebrate, please email me ASAP! While here you will be working with small groups of students completing a 100's day activity. Each child in the class will visit your "station" during the time you are here. The activities are simple but fun....so come on in and help us celebrate!
Valentine's Day arrives soon after 100's day. If you are getting a head start on your Valentine's, please have your child address their Valentine to "My Friend" or leave it blank. The reason for this is that we pass out Valentine's before the party and many of the students struggle with reading their friends names. It is so hard for me to help 28 students pass out Valentine's making sure that they end up with the "correct" person. When addressed to "my friend" everyone gets one and everyone is happy! Also, please remember NO FOOD ITEMS are allowed to be attached to the Valentine's cards. If there are food items, your child will not be able to pass out their cards
