First Full Day Tomorrow

What an exciting day today was! The smiling faces of your children is why I love my job so much. I can't wait to spend the year working with you and your child to build a solid foundation for the future and to foster the enjoyment of learning. Please read below and the tips on the side of the blog to help make the transition to May Watts successful!

1. Say goodbye OUTSIDE the school on Friday and next week. Parents will not be allowed in the classroom on the first full day of school. If your child is upset or scared about their first day, it is better to give them a quick hug and kiss and tell them they will have a great day and hand them over to a teacher, then to come in to the room and try and help them with the transition. Trust us..this works. Sometimes the second week of school is harder than the first!

2. Pack things for lunch and snack that you know your child will like and eat. It is best to not get hot lunch the first few weeks of school. Also, pack your child's snack and lunch in separate containers and explain to them which is which. Make sure all the items you pack are easy for your child to open even though there will be plenty of help in the lunchroom. It is normal for them to bring home food the first few days/weeks.

3. Realize that your child may be VERY tired the first few weeks of school as they learn to adjust to their new schedule. Very soon they will have adapted and be back to their energetic selves! Be sure to get them a good nights rest to support their school schedule.

4. Remember, it is often difficult for your child to articulate what they did all day at school. They will begin to open up more often as they settle in to the routine.

It is going to be a fantastic year!
