We had a great week in Kindergarten this
week. We continued to work on Daily 5 and we practiced Work on Writing every
day. The kids LOVED getting their special writing notebooks and I LOVED seeing
the excitment on their faces as they began diving into their writing. I can't
wait to read and share all the wonderful things they will write this year. We
have been building stamina all week in our reading and writing segments of Daily
5 and next week we will train the students in Word Work. During this segment,
kids manipulate letters and practice putting sounds together to make words.
Today we learned about the scientific method while doing an experiment. We planned out our experiment, gathered our materials, made a hypothesis, conducted the experiment, and recorded our results. It was so much fun to be a scientist! Usually scientists don't drink their experiments...but we did and it was delicious! :)
Next week we will be talking about the seasons...especially fall. Students will be able to visit the class wonder center and explore some fall nature items. The class will hear many books about autumn and will brainstorm some fun fall activities. We will also explore the calendar and learn about the months of the year. Of course we will continue our jolly phonics lessons. Each day we learn a new sound. We are now starting to be able to read and write 3 letter words with our learned sounds in them.(s,a,t,i,p,n,e,h,r,m,o,u,g,l) You should test us at home...you will be amazed! We will also introduce the sight word 'my'. Hopefully you are reviewing the popcorn words at home!
We continue to build our number sense everyday. The things we are beginning to be able to explain with math talk-patterns and ten frames to name a few- are unbelievable. Be sure to practice explaining your thinking at home. Next week we will start to use our math wall. Thank you so much to all the parents who came in Monday to help put the math binders together. It was a huge help to us and we appreciate it!
On curriculum night I sent home a link to our scholastic book order with some order forms. Scholastic books are a great way to buy books. Each time you buy a book we earn points towards books for our classroom. I am planning on closing out the order by Monday September,24th.
