Letter T and Halloween!!

Next week we will learn about the letter T. During the week we will read Mr. Tannen's Ties, The Teeny Tiny Woman, Sweet Tooth, some tall tales, and a few non-fiction turtle books. The students will recall facts about turtles for a writing assignment as well as make a cool art project. In math we will be introduced to tally marks and compare things that are taller/tinier than us. We will review teen numbers. The teen numbers are often the most difficult numbers to learn, they don't follow the typical number patterns, so be sure to practice reading and writing them at home. Jolly Phonics will wrap up this week too. All of the sounds will have been introduced by Wednesday. We will spend a week or two reviewing and then hopefully we will all be able to use the program effectively (of course review and practice at home is a bonus!). Soon we will be starting Writing Workshop. This time of year, we really start to see the children's writing take off! It is exciting.

During the week we will also read some Halloween and pumpkin books as we get ready for our Fall Festival on Wednesday. The students are allowed to come to school dressed up in a Halloween costume. Please have the costume/makeup on your child before they come to school. Teachers will not be able to help them apply makeup or change their clothes. Students should not bring any weapons to school or wear masks that they can not see out of. There will be a parade around the school and 2pm (feel free to come and watch...K is the first grade out, so be sure to be there on time) and a classroom party. We have several parent volunteers coming in to help...thanks in advance for your time and planning! I am sure the kids will have a GREAT time!

Kindergarten students do not get report cards 1st quarter. When we meet during conferences, I will share with you about your child's social and academic growth in Kindergarten so far. I will have some checklists and work samples to share with you. It is a very informative 20 minutes! I look forward to meeting with you and discussing your child. While in the school for conferences, be sure to visit the book fair in the LMC. You can purchase books for your child, and even donate one to our classroom. Each teacher has a "wish" list that you can choose from. Of course donating a book is voluntary...but always much appreciated!
