This week we spent a lot of our time INSIDE! The weather was just not cooperating with us. Hopefully the weather next week will be better-everyone is happier when we get to catch a breath of fresh air! Next week we we will meet our 4th grade buddies. Buddies is a very special part of our kindergarten year. The K students and the 4th grade student in Mrs. Gilbert's class will get together once a month or so to read or do some other simple activities.
Next week we will introduce the letter S. During the week we will read fiction and non-fiction books about spiders. We will compare these genres and do some non-fiction writing as well. Towards the end of the week we will discuss seasons and some of the characteristics of each one. Students will complete a four square on seasons and be encouraged to write something about each season. We hope to spend some time outside exploring the fall season and looking for signs of fall.
In math we will begin to prepare for number writing and learn how to play a fun game called Skyscrapers. We will also continue to build on our number sense as we once again explore the math wall and continue to build our understanding of numbers all around us.
October is when we really get in a groove. Look for updates on guest readers, literacy centers and volunteer opportunities in the next few weeks. Flex groups will start soon. Students will find out who their flex group teacher is sometime at the end of this week or the begining of the next. Writing workshop will start when we complete the jolly phonics program. This is an important time to be reviewing the jolly phonics sounds/motions with your child. We will really step up the writing and blending of these sounds in the next few weeks.
